EDITH (SAILOR) POWERS

Edith Sailor Powers, 83, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has slipped from our loving grasp to venture to Heaven to be with our Blessed Father after suffering complications from a fall. Edith was born to Irene Faulkner Sailor and Daniel Sailor on September 16, 1922 in South Bend, IN, a member of America's Greatest Generation.

She met the love of her life at the age of 14 while attending Central High School in South Bend, IN, from which she graduated in 1940. She married George Powers on September 11, 1943 in South Bend, IN. Edith and George raised four children and as they became adults,

Edith began working for The Westsider of Litchfield Park, AZ. Edith did volunteer work for the Pennywise Thrift Store. She was a member of the St. John Vianney Catholic Community in Litchfield Park and the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Community in Sun City. She enjoyed friends from her volunteer work, quilting as a member of the Sunny Quilters of Sun City, playing bridge and entertaining-always the consummate Hostess and life the party. She was a wife, loving mother, a proud and attentive grandmother and great-grandmother. We will always remember her welcoming arms and willingness to share.

Preceding Edith in reaching Heaven are her mother, Irene Hadd; her father, Daniel Sailor; and her step-father, Lionel Hadd.

Survivors include her husband, George D. Powers, Sr. of Sun City, AZ; her daughter Pamela Walker and her husband, Ron of Sun City, AZ; her three sons: Dan and his wife Jody, of Cave Creek, AZ; Jeffrey and his wife Julie of Houston, TX; David and his wife Robin, of The Colony, TX. 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave. in Sun City. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 Palmeras Ln., Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
