Marion E (Copenhaver) Barnes

Marion E. Barnes, 91, of South Bend, IN passed away at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Hamilton Grove Communities, New Carlisle, after an extended illness. She was born on June 9, 1922 in South Bend, IN to the late Glen and Nora E. (Horin) Copenhaver.

On October 3, 1941 in California she was united in marriage to Dean Barnes who preceded her in death in March 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Larry Barnes.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by two daughters, Barbara (David) Johnson of New Carlisle, IN and Diane (Richard) Williamson of Elkhart, IN; one granddaughter, Ericka Young and two great grandchildren, Nicholas & Brooke Young.

Mrs. Barnes was a lifelong resident. She retired after twenty-five years from Robertson's Department Store where she worked in the Silver dept. She was very fond of her great grandchildren and took care of them when they were young. She used to take an annual trip with her children and grandchildren all around America. She loved to camp and travel, going to Paris France which she really enjoyed. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the American Legion Aux. Post #303.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the funeral home.
