Resident of San Carlos, Harold H. Burgess, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the San Carlos Elms. Born to Harold C. and Eunice Burgess in La Fountain, Indiana, he grew up in South Bend and attended the University of Indiana.
Joining the Navy in 1942, Harold saw action on D-Day and later at Okinawa as Pharmacists Mate 1st Class. After the war, he married Mary Helen (Alward); they were married 67 years.

Harold is survived by his wife Mary Helen, daughter Mary (Tim Gruman), son Brian, granddaughter Erin Gruman, grandson Robert Gruman, and brother Stewart Burgess.

Harold's career as a pharmaceutical sales rep for Merck spanned 28 years. At Trinity Presbyterian Church of San Carlos he served as an elder. He was a member of Toastmasters, Elks, Civil War Roundtable, SIRS, Sequoia Hospital Auxiliary, and Big Brothers.
Harold enjoyed many recreational pursuits – a "cottage" at Berryessa, tennis matches at Burton Park, golf, boating and swimming. He was an avid fan of the SF Giants and enjoyed world travel with Mary Helen. He loved to explore his genealogy, spending long hours tracing family lines.

A special thank-you to the staff of the San Carlos Elms and to Pathways Hospice for their loving care and support. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1106 Alameda, San Carlos, CA on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 PM. Donations can be made to the Memorial Fund at the church.
