Marguerite M. (Kline) Shields

SOUTH BEND — Marguerite M. Shields, 87, formerly of East Wayne Street and Milton Home, died at 4 p.m. Monday in Regency Place. Mrs. Shields retired in 1970 from the South Bend Community School Corp., after serving as a third-grade teacher for 17 years at Jefferson Elementary School.

She was born June 26, 1905, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On July 21, 1934, in Kewanna, as Marguerite M. Kline, she married Dr. Roy C. Shields. He died Dec. 27, 1952. She is survived by a son, Robert C. of South Bend; two grand-children; two sisters, Florence Stouder of Defiance, Ohio, and Virginia B. Hickey of South Bend.

She was a board member of First United Methodist Church, a member of Progress Club, Monday Book Club, College Club of South Bend, Chapter AT of P.E.O. Sisterhood and was a graduate of Ball State University and Bethel College. She was also a former teacher at Studebaker Elementary School.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 am. today in the funeral home.
