Richard J. O'Neill
Richard "Dick" J. O'Neill, 95, died Friday December 20, 2013 at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg. Richard was born in May 9, 1918 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and grew up South Bend, Indiana. He graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Notre Dame University. Richard started his career in the U.S. Navy in the officer corps, serving in the Pacific during World War Two.
In the private section, he was a pioneer in computer engineering, beginning his career with IBM. Eventually, he worked for many different firms, making significant contributions to the development of the modern computer. He ended his career at AMP Inc. in Harrisburg. Richard was the founder of the Golden Mouse Club at Messiah Village, where he volunteered many hours, and volunteered 19 years at the emergency room at the Holy Spirit Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty, four children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
