William E. Bare

March 3, 1919 — July 12, 2003

SOUTH BEND — William E. Bare, 84, of York Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in his residence. Mr. Bare was born on March 3, 1919, in South Bend, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. On Feb. 15, 1947, in South Bend, he married the former Kathleen L. Cutting, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Ronald D. (Margaret) Bare and Doug A. (Laura) Bare, both of South Bend; six grandchildren, Carolyn, Jenifer, James, David, Heather and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Eryn and Ashley; a sister, Geraldine Smith of South Bend; and by a brother, Loyal Bare of South Bend.

William was a loving, thoughtful, caring husband, father and grand-father who loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He will not only be missed by his wonderful loving family, he will be missed by all who knew him. "The essence of William E. Bare has been revealed. A tribute to a presence that can never be replaced, only remembered." Mr. Bare retired after 48 years with the Bendix Corporation in South Bend. He was also a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and received a Purple Heart for injuries received during the war. He was also a member of DAV, White Eagle Chapter #39.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 16, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Oliver officiating. Burial to follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
