Henry D. Baele

March 12, 1921 - April 15, 2005

Henry D. Baele, 84, residing on Northside Boulevard, South Bend, passed away at 12:57 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born March 12, 1921, in South Bend, as the son of Rene and Octavia (Coene) Baele, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.

On August 30, 1947, in South Bend, he married Lucille M. Mitchell, who preceded him in death on February 26, 1987. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Koloszar. Mr. Baele is survived by his two daughters, Peggy (Spencer) Aronson of South Bend and Patty (Chuck) Walkup of Emmaus, PA; and his son, Henry (Andrea) Baele of Highland Heights, OH.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Lisa Walkup of Alexandria, VA, Ben (Cinda) Aronson of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Walkup of New Haven, CT, Jennifer Baele and Alex Baele, both of Highland Heights, OH; a great-granddaughter, Malaina Sue; a brother, Roger (Mary) Baele of South Bend; his mother-in-law, Margaret Giantomaso of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Clara Mitchell; and two brothers-in-law, John Dragovich and Joseph Koloszar, all of South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Rev. Derrick Sneyd, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.

Mr. Baele retired as an accountant with Northern Electric Company. He was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and Kiwanis International. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 99th Infantry Division and at the Battle of the Bulge.
