SOUTH BEND - John Joseph Peter Snellgrove, 72, of Harvest Drive, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday in his home.

Mr. Snellgrove was employed as a business manager for Patternmakers League of North America for 51 years. He was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in South Bend for 57 years, coming from Elmont, N.Y. On April 15, 1944, in South Bend, he married Mary Logan Mitchell.

She survives with five daughters, Suzanne Nielsen of Battle Creek, Mich., Dianne Fitzpatrick and Joanne Schaeffer, both of South Bend, Marianne Whelchel of Mundelein, Ill., and Louanne Bennett of Spring City, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas P. Flannery of Morehead City, N.C.

A grandson, John David Nielsen, died Jan. 10, 1976.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Father J.A. Nieuwland Assembly, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Loyal Order of Moose, Sacred Heart Basilica, and served as an usher at the Notre Dame football stadium for 40 years. He was an instructor for patternmaker apprentices for more than 25 years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Junior College Brothers Center Chapel. Burial will be at St. Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Junior College or Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
