Nicholas E. Pinter

SOUTH BEND - Nicholas E. Pinter, 90, residing in South Bend, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, in the Ironwood Health & Rehab Center, South Bend, IN. He was born March 27, 1919, in South Bend, IN, the son of Charles and Barbara (Kovacis) Pinter, and remained a lifelong resident. On December 26, 1942, in South Bend, he married the former Julia M. DeLodder, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2004. Also preceding him in death were a son, James, and two brothers, Charles and Eugene.

Mr. Pinter served in the United States Army during World War II, and was involved with the last group of men in 1941 to ride horses in the service. While in the service he was also involved in the Golden Gloves boxing competition in El Paso, Texas. Nicholas retired as a letter carrier with the United States Post Office after 40 years. He was a member of the South Bend Post Office Pistol Club and Golf League. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Panama City Beach, where he golfed, went metal detecting, and played bingo with his wife, Julia and many friends he made down there.

Nicholas is survived by one son, Thomas M. (Lynn Lollis) Pinter of Mishawaka; a daughter-in- law, Carolyn Pinter of South Bend; and four grandchildren, twins, Nanette (Eric) McCartney and Nathan Pinter, and twins, Polly (Brian) Perri and Patrick Pinter.
