Genevieve 'Pete' (Peterson) Donat

A memorial service was held for Genevieve "Pete" Donat, 95, of the Portland area, formerly of Coos Bay, on Friday, June 1, at St. James Episcopal Church in Portland. Genevieve was born Jan. 15, 1912, in South Bend, Ind. She died on May 23, 2007, in Portland. Genevieve Peterson married Norbert "Ike" Donat on June 25, 1933. They lived in Rome City, Ind., until they moved to Oregon in 1958. Pete and Ike had several businesses in Central Oregon before moving to Coos Bay in 1990. She had lived in the Portland area since 2000, and had been a member of St. James Episcopal Church for the past six years.

Genevieve is survived by her son, Dan Donat, and his wife, Marie; daughter, Nancy Freeman; five grandchildren, Debra Donat Poling and husband, Greg, Dena Donat Poling and husband, Jack, Danise Donat Robinson and husband, Jeff, Matthew Freeman and wife, Stephanie and Corinna Freeman Horsell and Paul; and five great-grandchildren, Angela Freeberg and husband, KC, Heather Poling, Jessica Poling, Raushel Shepherd and husband, Nathaniel and Whitney Reichlin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike, in October 1993; and son-in-law, Harvey Freeman, in September 1998.
