John W. McCauslin

John W. McCauslin, 73, of 2014 Rockne Drive, died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday in Cardinal Health Center. He retired in 1978 as superintendent of operations for the South Bend Water Works. Born Feb. 13, 1911, in South Bend, he lived here all of his life.
On Feb. 1, 1937, in South Bend, he married June Turnock, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Helen M. McCauslin of Kalamazoo, Mary Anne Schudel of Galesburg, Ill., Melissa June Rocek of Inchelium, Wash.: two sons, Daniel John of San Jose, Calif., and John Francis of New Orleans; five grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Borowski of South Bend; a brother, Charles of South Bend.
A brother, Archie, preceded him in death.
Mr. McCauslin began his career as a plumber and steamfitter at local firms, and later was superintendent of construction and maintenance at the University of Notre Dame before joining the Water Works in 1954.
In 1966, he was the first resident inspector for the water department and had charge of building the two filtration plants. In 1967, he was honored with the South Bend Jaycees Good Government Award. He was also active in state and local amateur baseball leagues.
