Leo C. Markiewicz

Services will be Monday, Jun 6, 1977, for Leo C. Markiewicz, 69, of 2432 Bonds, retired city circulation manager of The Tribune, who died Friday In St. Josephs Hospital after a months illness. Markiewicz was born on March 21, 1908, In South Bend, I and had lived here all his life. He retired from The Tribune in 1973, having served 13 years as city circulation manager.

His newspaper career began as a Tribune carrier. Then he went to work part-time in the The Tribunes mailroom while in high school. He began full-time employment with The Tribune in the circulation department in 1929, after graduation from Central High School. He was a member and past vice president of the South Bend Press Club and a member of The Tribune 25-Year Club. He had become an institution in the press clubs annual Gridiron Show, creating, ordering and supervising the flambouyant costuming of the actors in the shows skits.

He was a charter member and .long-time director of the Breezers , Quo of South Bend, and was a mem-ber of the Eagles Lodge and the Holy .Name Society of St. Casimirs Catholic Church. He was a long-time member of the board of trustees of the church and had been involved in ,many civic and West Side organizations.

On Aug. 6. 1934, he married the former Martha F. Vriest. who survlves, along with a daughter, Mrs. Marlene Waltz of South Bend; a son, James L. of South Bend; five grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Regina Markiewicz, Mrs. Alice Gruber and ' Mrs. Dorothy Hyduk, all of South " Bend, and a brother, Clem of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a m. Monday in St. Casimirs Catholic Church with Rev. Leo C. Wojciechowski. pastor. officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call 1 from 7 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewskl & Sons Funeral Home.
