EDWARD J. LEE

SOUTH BEND - Edward Jennings Lee, 99, died at 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, in his home. Mr. Lee was born June 12, 1908, in South Bend, to the late Clarence E. and Lillian (Jennings) Lee, and was a lifetime area resident.

On November 21, 1936, in South Bend, he married Margaret Gish, who preceded him in death on May 7, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a son, John "Jack" R. Lee; two sisters, Dorothy Durand and Jeanette Obenchain; and two brothers, William E. Lee and Robert R. Lee.

Survivors include his sons, Robert R. Lee (Patricia) and William J. (Judy). He will be missed by his six grandchildren, Linda May (Larry) of South Bend, Kathy Singer (Mark) of Carmel, IN, Rick Lee (Joanne) of Colorado Springs, CO, Chuck Lee (Danielle) of South Bend, Kristin (Pat) Knight of Denver, CO, and Ryan Lee (Nikki) of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves 10 great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.

He was a graduate of South Bend High School (Central) and DePauw University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

He was president of C.E. Lee Company, from which he retired. He served his community as a board member of the YMCA and as a member of Kiwanis International. As a young man, he was an avid athlete, setting the city record in the mile run. He also was a YMCA city champion in handball.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Betty Alexander officiating. Cremation will take place at the Welsheimer Crematory. Friends may call in the funeral home from 4 p.m. until services.
