John Willis Barrett

John W. Barrett, 73, of 1241 Diamond Ave., died at 7:43 aim. Friday in Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He had retired from the automotive service department of the Bendix Corp. in 1970 after 40 years of service. He was born on Sept. 4, 1909, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and lived in South Bend for 59 years, coming from Poplar Bluff. On Nov. 9, 1942, in South Bend, he married Mary Coleman, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Barry of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lyn Orris of New Orleans, La.; and two brothers, David of South Bend and Paul of Corpus Christi, Tex.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the battle of the Attu Islands, and was a member of the Bendix Senior Management Club. The Welsheimer Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
