RICHARD J. LUDWICK

Jan. 17, 1918 - Sept. 3, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Richard J. "Dick" Ludwick passed away September 3, 2011, at 7:30 pm in his home. He was born on January 17, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Harriett and Marcellus Ludwick. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Harry Ludwick, MD, his sister, Marcy Zorn, and his little daughter, Amy.

Except for ten years in Niles, MI, South Bend was his home.

He graduated from Central High School and took classes in Business Administration at IUSB. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps from October 31, 1942, to December 20, 1945. During that time, Dick received three honorary medals for his exceptional service.

Upon his return to South Bend, he took over the family printing business, Ludwick Graphics, Inc. He was a true craftsman and was happy to share his knowledge. After many years of service, he retired from the printing business, but kept busy pursuing his hobbies.

He and Margaret, his wife of 55 years, traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, but what they enjoyed and looked forward to most was their annual trip to northern Minnesota, where they fished in the lakes that connected the United States and Canada. Dick was a humble, caring and generous man who was dearly loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sons, James and Robert (Jill) Ludwick; his daughter, Ann Farkas; his grandchildren, Claire and Meredith Farkas, and Sydney, Jay and Beau Ludwick; and his sister, Virginia Hurt of Winter Park, Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, September 8, 2011, in St. Matthew Catholic Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613. Online condolences may be sent through www.palmerfuneralhomes.com. Contributions in memory of Richard J. Ludwick may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
