Edward A. Lawton

July 22, 1926 - June 27, 2001 

Dr. Edward A. Lawton, 74, of Mishawaka, Ind., died Wednesday, June 27. in Memorial Hospital. Dr. Lawton was preceded in death by his infant son, Christopher; brothers, Jim. Lawton and Louis Lawton: and by a sister, Anne MeGuane.  Mr. Lawton was born in Niles, Mich., on July 22, 1926, to Jasper and Martha Lawton,

He was a graduate of Central High School of South Bend, Ind; B.S. from Indiana University; and DDS. from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He served as a radio officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He also served as a naval dental officer in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957 at Norfolk Naval Base and aboard the USS Roanoke.

Honorably discharged, he returned to, South Bend to practice dentistry for the remainder of his life. He Served as dentist for team sports at the University of Notre Dame. Dr Lawton served on the board of directors of the St. Joseph County Dental Society, was president of the North Central Dental Society, the American Academy of Physiologic Dentistry, and the Academy of Functional Prosthodontics. He was a member of the American Dental Association American Prosthodontic Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the St. Joseph Medical Center staff and the University Club of Notre Dame. He loved to golf and was a longtime member of the South Bend Country Club, 

His loving wife, Kathleen Cain Lawton, and his children, Edward John Lawton and wife, Ann, Kate Lawton, Peter Kerr Lawton Elizabeth Lawton Gerber and her husband, Frank Gerber, and Julie ‘Ann Lawton, who adored their father, survive Dr. Lawton. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Edward and Andrew Lawton, Isabella Lawton and Natalie Gerber; and by two brothers, John Lawton and Roy Lawton. 

He was the very best that a man can be: fair, kind, loving, honest and loyal 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, in Holy ‘Cross Junior College Church on U.S. 933 (U.S, 31 North).
