Lamoine Ora Carter , 69, residing on East Monroe, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, at his home, of natural causes. He was born on Feb. 19, 1927, in South Bend, to the late John T. and Vernice L. Carter . He had lived in the South Bend area most of his life

In 1988, Mr. Carter retired from O'Brien Corporation in South Bend, after 30 years of service.

.On June 15, 1956, in South Bend, he married Barbara Carol Jones, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Gunn of Niles, Mich.; four sons, Stephen T. and James P., both of South Bend, John D. of Freiburg, Germany and Daniel W. of St. Joseph, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and two sisters, Glynn E. Forbes of South Bend and Mickey Kahl of Charleston, Ind.

A sister, Joan Meilner, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m., today, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services, on Saturday.

Mr. Carter was a graduate of DePauw University and an Army veteran of World War II. He also employed a strong interest in conservation, wildlife, and forestry, and he created a classified wildlife habitat in planting thousands of trees on his farm near Potato Creek State Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Audubon Society or to the American Heart Association.
