Phyllis J. Beck

Phyllis J. Beck, 87, of Frances Street, South Bend, Ind., died on Friday, Aug. 16, in Hospice House. Phyllis was born in South Bend and had lived in this area all her life. She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School, class of 1933. Phyllis graduated from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, and received a BSN in nursing from the Indiana University of Bloomington.

Phyllis worked at Saint Joseph Medical Center for 35 years until her retirement in 1984. Ms. Beck was a member of the Indiana Nurses Association, and has been a member of Sacred Heart Parish since the 1 940s. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Petra Beck; and by her brother, Roy Kauffman. She is survived by her nephew, Michael (Wendy) Kauffman; and by her great-nephew, Robert Kauffman.

There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Basilica. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery on campus. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the charity of your choice. The Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
