NORTH LIBERTY - Calvin Melville, 88, of North Liberty, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 9:30 PM at Memorial Hospital due to an extended illness. Calvin was born on February 21, 1924, in Pierre, South Dakota, to William and Mabel (Benter) Melville. In January 1954, in South Bend, IN, he married the former Dolly J. Smith, who preceded him in death on October 30th, 1986. He had resided in the Michiana area since 1986, coming from Miami, FL. Calvin is survived by two daughters, Cindy J. (Mike) Yates of South Bend, IN, and Colleen (Robert) Cornwell of Apple Valley, MN; two sons, Dru (Joan) Melville of Hollywood, FL, and Scott (Elizabeth) Melville of Pembroke Pines, FL; four grandchildren, Harl Shafer Jr., Nicki Fietzer, Kyle Cornwell and Stephanie Melville; one great-grandchild, Austin Clark; and two sisters, Anna Mae Kraus of North Port, FL, and Mary Ellen Hogart of Denton, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Jim, Bill, Ron and Dale Melville; and one granddaughter, Monica Reynolds. Calvin retired in 1982 from Eastern Air Lines in Miami, FL, where he worked as a stock clerk. He was also a WW II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Melville's hobbies included watching war movies, gardening, watching the news, and also being with his family and grandkids. He was also a member of American Legion Post 365 and VFW Post 1954 in North Liberty, IN. Calvin was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his loving family and all who had the opportunity to know him during his life journey. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Legion Post 365, located at 308 S. Reed Street, North Liberty, IN 46554. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Military graveside services will be conducted by North Liberty American Legion Post 365 and VFW Post 1954 on Monday, June 18th, at 11:00 AM at Eastlawn Cemetery in North Liberty, IN. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel" handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Melville family.
