Ruth M (Gibbs) McNaughton

Ruth M (Gibbs) McNaughton, 85, residing in South Bend, passed away at 5:20 pm Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Ruth was born on June 28, 1927, in Edwardsburg, Michigan, to the late Francis E and Dessie L (Lumbert) Gibbs, and had resided in this area since 1944.

On December 31, 1948, in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Frank C McNaughton, who preceded her in death on September 2, 2006.

Ruth previously worked in Market Research at A J Wood and then worked as a Nursing Assistant for Kelly Health Care, retiring in 1997. She was actively involved with the Republican Party and served as a Representative for the Indiana Delegation, a member of the League of Women Voters, a Master Gardener, a member of the Forever Learning Institute, and part of the 5th Wheel Home Demonstration Club. She attended the First Unitarian Church.

Ruth is survived by her son, one granddaughter and three great-granddaughters; two sisters, and four brothers,

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Dessie Gibbs; husband, Frank C McNaughton; two sisters, Ramona Myers and Betty Lou Bolding; and two brothers, Glen Gibbs and Alvin Gibbs.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the YWCA North Central Indiana (Domestic Abuse), 1102 S Fellows Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
