SOUTH BEND — Robert John Smith, 77, of 2711 Northside Blvd., died early Thursday in his home. Mr. Smith was a manufacturer's sales representative and a real-estate broker. He was born Aug 29, 1912, in South Bend and was a life-long area resident.

On Aug 10, 1939, in South Bend, he married Alice Kuehn, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Suzanne S. Guyer of Owensboro, Ky.; a son, Craig A. of South Bend; five grand-children; two sisters, Mary A. Taylor of Oregon, Ohio, and Helen Goss of South Bend; and a brother, Kenneth P. of Hinsdale, Ill.

He was a graduate of the former Central High School, attended Hanover College and Indiana University, was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Northern Indiana Civil War Roundtable, South Bend/Mishawaka Board of Realtors and First Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer tutor for the Literacy Council of St. Joseph County.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call following services on Saturday in the church. Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or any charity.
