D. Elizabeth (Smith) VanHorn
Dora Elizabeth VanHorn, 103, of Fort Wayne, passed away on May 22, 2017. Born on October 17, 1913, in Nashville, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy and Mae Alice Smith; and was a member of Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, the United Methodist Women; she was also the first woman certified as a lay speaker in the United Methodist Church in Indiana. Elizabeth volunteered for countless charitable organizations; a charter member of the Jolly Neighbor Extension Home Economics Club, a former Campfire Leader; and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, I.O.O.F., Rebekah's Auxiliary, Typographical Union Auxiliary, PTA Council and 4-H Leader.
She is survived by her children, Joan (Joe) Baldwin and Lee (Marsha) VanHorn; grandchildren, Connie (John) Tempel, Dale (Lisa) Baldwin, Karen (Joseph) Howe-Mansfield, Jason (Kellie) VanHorn, Curtis (Jennifer) VanHorn, Brian (Julie) VanHorn and Charlotte Baldwin; 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence VanHorn; son, Wayne (Claudia) VanHorn; grandson, Paul Baldwin; great-grandson, Ryan Baldwin; two sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral service will be 10:30am Saturday, May 27, at Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church, 12707 Tonkle Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, Friday, May 26, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
