John L. "Jack"  Schoonover

SOUTH BEND — John L. “Jack” Schoonover, 82,, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday Memorial Hospital. Mr. Schoonover retired in 1978 from Whirlpool Corp. as an industrial engineer and department manager after 37 years of service. He was former chief industrial engineer for U.S. Rubber Co., Havana, Cuba.

He was born Sept. 4, 1913, in South Bend. On Aug. 2, 1954, in Crown Point, Ind., he married M. June Sweet. She survives with a son, a; three grand-children; and a sister, V. Jane Hoban of Cincinnati.

He was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and member of Whirlpool Management Club, Elks Lodge 235, St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, past member of American Management Club and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Unit of American Cancer Society.
