Melvin Mittan

Melvin Mittan, 87, of Springfield, MO., passed away in his home Friday, May 4, 2001. He was born July 29, 1913, in South Bend, Ind., to Clyde and Vemie Bestle Mittan. Melvin attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a tool and die maker, employed by the Bendix and Martin Marietta Corporations in the missle division. He retired in 1979 from Coors Industries, a member of management, Quality Assurance/Quality Control. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite of South Bend and Mishawaka, IN., for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard 

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of the home; a son, Gerald; a daughter, Rebecca Bradley; two grandchildren, Stephen and Kimberly; a great-granddaughter, Shelby; and three stepchildren, Shirley Myers, and Michael and Sharon Dawon.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, in Humansville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kendall Waller officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice, American Cancer Society or to the charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Walnut Lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Home, Springfield, MO.
