Dr. John J. Koczan Jr.
Dr. John J. Koczan Jr., 64, of 2312 Erskine, died at 1:15 a.m. today in St. Joseph's Hospital of an apparent heart attack. He had been an optometrist 30 years in South Bend. Born on March 25, 1913, in South Bend, he lived here all his life. On Oct. 14, 1950. he married Ethel Jankovits, who survives, along with a daughter, Miss Barbara Koczan, at home; two sons, John and Gregory; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Gruber; a stepsister, Mrs. Margaret Ettl, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs John Koczan Sr., all of South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew's Cathedral, Bishop Joseph Crowley, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home. Koczan was a fourth degree member of Father Nieuland General Assembly and a member of Santa Made Council 553, Knights of Columbus. He was a World War II veteran. A rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the funeral home by the St. Matthew's parish and the Knights of Columbus. The Sacred Heart and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church will recite a rosary at 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
