Rose (Cohen) Weingarten

Rose Weingarten, 87, of South Bend, Ind., died on Thursday, Sept. 14, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 15, 1912. in Russia, to Max and Dora Cohen. and moved to South Bend in 1918. She married Jake Weingarten in South Bend in 1949. Jake passed away in 1973. Mrs. Weingarten graduated from South Bend Central High School, and served as president of the former Jack Frost Company in South Bend from 1948 to 1984. She was a member of Sinai Synagogue Hadassah and B'nai-Binth Women.

She was honored by the YWCA as a recipient of their Women Owned Business of the Year Award.

She is survived by two daughters Eileen Weingarten of Mishawaka and Shirley Weingarten of South Bend two sons. Lenny (Darlene) Weingarten of South Bend and Harvey (Carin) Weingarten of Granger, three granddaughters. Flynn. Jori and Peri, a sister. Abraham Kahal of South Bend Julius (Bert) Cohen of Leisure World, CA.; and by several nieces and nephews whom she loved.  

Funeral services for Mrs. Weingarten will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, in the Forest Hay Funeral Home, Ironwood Jefferson, South Bend. Burial be at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Weingarten to the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph County or to the charity of donor's choice.
