SOUTH BEND - Sherman B. Eichorst, 77, of 3221 Mishawaka Ave., and Birch Lake, Vandalia, died at 4:55 a.m. Thursday in his home after an illness. Mr. Eichorst retired as a supervisor from the U.S. Postal Service. He was born Dec. 2, 1915, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On Feb. 20, 1937, in South Bend, he married Shirley B. Douglas. She survives with three sons, Douglas of Abilene, Texas, Bradley of Oakridge, Tenn., and Kurt of Niceville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Charles of North Liberty.

He was a past commander of American Legion Post 303, a member of River Park United Methodist Church and Letter Carriers Association, and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollis- Funeral Home. Cremation will take place with burial at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc., or the church.
