Francis R. Alward
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Francis Ream Alward, 80, of 452 Longview Terrace, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in South Bend, Ind., he was a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., and retired from Singer Manufacturing Co. He was a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church where he was a deacon and member of the Judge Ralph Drake Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his widow, Frances Edmonds Alward; daughters, Marilyn Alward Flowers of Charlotte, Leah Alward Curtis of Syracuse, Ind., and Carol Alward Hill of Greenville; son, Francis R. Alward Jr. of Greenville; sisters, Miriam Fowler of Berkley, Calif., and Mary Helen Burgess of San Carlos, Calif.; brother, Dr. John Haney Alward of Prescott, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one greatgranddaughter.
He was a son of the late Francis Lloyd and Mary Leah Haney Alward. Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Augusta Road Baptist Church by Dr. Floyd Parker and Dr. Marion Hare; entombment will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Augusta Road Baptist Church, 1823 Augusta Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605 or the Alzheimer's Association of the Upstate, 301 University Ridge, Greenville, S.C. 29601
