Claude A. Smith

Claude A. Smith, 90, of Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of Portage Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in Fountainview Place. He was born on May 26, 1912, in South Bend, to the late Jessie (Whitmer) and Howard Smith. Mr. Smith was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard A. Smith and L. Thomas Smith.

On June 21, 1935, in South Bend, he married Edna C. Motts, who recently preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2002.

Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Claudia (Kenneth) Kirkdorfer of Buchanan, Mich.; a son, Duane (Marjorie) Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren, Lisa Jo Metz, DeWayne Kirkdorfer and Jeanne Smith; three great-grandchildren; and by a brother, William D. Smith of South Bend.

Mr. Smith worked for the Bendix Corporation and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, South Bend. Services for Mr.

Smith will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11th, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, where friends may call one hour prior to services. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. David Jenkins, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family has. requested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Indiana Chapter, 425 N. Michigan, Suite 308, South Bend, IN 46601-1236
