Daniel W. Richardson

Former South Bend Street Commissioner Daniel W. (Dan) Richardson, 66, of 721 Park Ave., died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after a lengthy illness. In March 1962, he was named Indiana Street Commissioner of the Year by the Indiana Street Commissioners Association, shortly after his completion of two highly successful terms as president. He also served as city chief health inspector, as president and vice president of the Indiana chapter of the American Public Works Association, and president of the 1st District Democratic and Civic Association.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1917, in South Bend and was a lifetime area resident.
On Nov. 6, 1948, he married the former Bernice A. "Berchie" Jena, who survives. He: also is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Penny Rodefer of South Bend; a son, Michael J. of South Bend; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Grace Lefkow, Mrs. Patricia Buziak and Mrs. Dorothy Pajakowski, all of South Bend, and two brothers, Ralph A. of Mishawaka and Sheriff William J. Richardson of South Bend.
A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Rev. Wilfrid A. Menard, CSC, pastor, officiating, Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Friends may call until 9 p.m. to in the Hickey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or to the St. Joseph County Heart Fund
