Catherine Lenora Jenson (Netherton) - Class Of 1942 VIEW PROFILE

Catherine Lenora Jenson (Netherton)

Catherine “Katie” Lenora Netherton, 98, of Bonita Springs, FL formerly of South Bend, IN passed away peacefully on April 8, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Born on December 2, 1923 in South Bend, IN, a daughter of the late Jon and Sylvia (Cottrell) Jenson.

Katie was raised by her loving Grandma, Lenora Curl and graduated from Central High School. Following graduation she went to work as a Telephone Operator for Indiana Bell for 30 years. On May 29, 1944 she married Harry Netherton, with whom she had two children, Nancy and Roger. They lived in Ardmore until 1969 when they moved to Barron Lake until 2004.

Katie had three siblings, Bill Forsythe, Helen Jenson and June Halterman, who all preceded her in death.

During her long life, Katie made many lifelong friends. She never met a stranger and to know her was to love her. She had a quiet elegance about her until it came to playing cards. She was quite the card shark and loved beating her family and friends. Katie loved boating, fishing, swimming, adult coloring, reading and most of all spending time with her family. Always very talented, Katie learned to play the organ and harmonica by ear. At the age of 80, she sold the home she loved on the lake and moved to Bonita Springs, FL.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; siblings, Bill, Helen and June; and son-in-law, Larry Bourdon. She is survived by her children, Nancy Bourdon and Roger Netherton, both of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren, Anita Feingold (the late Bruce); Brad Bourdon (Kristi), Doug (Rachel) Bourdon; great-grandchildren, D.J. (Rebecca), Tyler, Baily, Nathan, Sophia, David, Josh, Samantha and Frankie; great-great-grandchildren, Ethan, Liam, Evelyn and Olivia; several loving nieces; and her little dog, Sasha.

Her kind spirit and quiet wit will be greatly missed by all. There are no services scheduled at this time. A celebration of life will take place this summer in South Bend, IN. She will be inurned in Riverview Cemetery next to her husband, Harry.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hope Hospice or the Humane Society in Katie’s name.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers from Millennium and Hope Hospice and to Shikany’s Funeral Home for all their help and loving support.
