SOUTH BEND - Paul N. Rexstrew, 87, of South Bend, passed away at 11:16 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Mr. Rexstrew was born on June 15, 1922, in North Liberty, to the late William and Emma (Eichorst) Rexstrew. He remained a lifelong resident. On February 22, 1947, in South Bend, he married Mary M. Powers, who survives.

Along with his wife, Mary, survivors include his daughter, Paula (Fred) Bazeley of Walkerton; son, Don (Beverly Lee) Rexstrew of Bloomington, IN; one granddaughter, Jennifer Arnett of Ft. Wayne; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashley Modos; several nieces and nephews including Tom Werner and Mary Parker. Mr. Rexstrew was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Werner and Mabel Deck; and a brother, Harold Rexstrew.

Mr. Rexstrew retired in 1987 after 30 years of employment with the South Bend Tribune in the printing department. He has been a lifetime member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, South Bend. Mr. Rexstrew proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. He served from 1942-1945 in Germany, France, Belgium and England. He was a member of DAV Chapter 19 in Elkhart and VFW Post 88 in Elkhart.
