ELKHART - Rowena M. Johnson, 85, of North Carolina Avenue in Elkhart, passed away at Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend on January 30, 2007, of natural causes. Rowena was born March 29, 1921, in South Bend, Indiana, to John F. and Cora (Seel) Wood.

On February 27, 1942, Rowena married Mr. William M. Johnson in Bryan, Ohio. Surviving are her son, Dick (Hedi) Johnson of South Bend, Indiana, and a daughter, Janice Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Sarah Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kristine Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Rowena was preceded in death by her husband, William, and by seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Sonnenberg presiding. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Rowena was a bookkeeper and office manager for several organizations in addition to being a homemaker. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Cub Scout den mother, was active in the PTA, and did volunteer work as a Play Lady at the Children's Hospital. In her spare time, Rowena and her husband enjoyed camping throughout the United States.
