John Evan Pullman

SOUTH BEND - John E. Pullman, 88, who resided in South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 8:38 PM Friday, December 11, 2009, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pullman was previously employed as a printer for Empire Box, South Bend, and then with Barger Box, Elkhart, where he retired in 1989 following 45 years of service.

On October 3, 1942, in South Bend, IN, he married Frances Marie (Thomson) Pullman, who preceded him in death on September 13, 1998.

John is survived by his two daughters, Jean Pullman of South Bend and Frances Marie (James A.) Groves of Huntsville, TX; four grandchildren, Cheryl Groves, Deborah Dennis, Christopher Treash and Allen Treash; six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Heather, Allison, Kasey, Cory and Evan; and one great-great grandson, Kaden. Also surviving are three sisters, Irene (Mike) Bickel of South Bend, Mary Drummond of California and Marjorie Hodges of Arizona.

Four sisters, Josephine Pullman, Helen Manuszak, Julie VanDreese and Agnes Mejer, and four brothers, Frank Pullman, Michael Pullman, Carl Pullman and Tony Pullman, all preceded John in death.

Mr. Pullman served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War ll from 1943-1946. He was a member of American Legion Post #161, Mishawaka, and VFW Post #8748, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 16, 2009, in Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Military services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM today in the funeral homes.
