SOUTH BEND -- Mary Grace Melander, 71. of Woodward Avenue. died at 3:30 a.m. today in her home after an illness. Mrs. Melander was the owner of Minkler's Hardware since 1970. She was born Aug. 16, 1922. in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On April 28. 1943. in Pueblo. Colo.. as Mary Grace Minkler. she married Donald C. Melander. He survives with a daughter, Carolyn J. Pinter of South Bend; four grandchildren; and a brother. Robert Minkler of Des Moines. Iowa. A son. D Theodore. died in 1964

She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. past president of Panhellenic of St Joseph County. and founder of Near Northwest Neighborhood Association.

Memorial services will be at 9 a.m Wednesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home. 521 N William St Cremation will take place with burial in Highland Cemetery Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of SI. Joseph County Inc.
