SOUTH BEND - South Bend, IN-James V. Leach, 99, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021. James was born on September 14, 1921, in South Bend, IN to the late Arthur and Grace (Kiplinger) Leach. On July 21, 1945, in Champaign, IL, James married the former Mary E. Jones who preceded him in death. James is survived by his daughters, Mary Alice Leach of South Bend, Janis Leach of South Bend, and Janiece (Edward Voitgman) Leach of East Hampton, MA.

Jim proudly serviced in the United States Army during WWII. He landed in France on D Day with the 4th Infantry Division. He was awarded the European Theater of Operations Medal with the Arrowhead and five Majors Campaign Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. Upon his return, Jim worked as a clerk for the South Bend Postal Service until his retirement after 30 years in 1976.

Jim belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the 4th Division Association of Military, the 8th Infantry Regimental Society, American Legion Post #777, American Association of Retired People and also served as Treasurer at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be held 9 am-11 am, Friday, April 2, 2021, in Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka with a funeral service at 11 am. Jim will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Due to current public health & safety standards, social distancing will be enforced and masks required.
