Ola Lorain (Evans) Williams

October 31, 1936 ~ January 4, 2016 (age 79)

Ola Lorain Williams, 79 of South Bend transitioned from earth to glory on Monday, January 4, 2016.  Ola was born to the union of James and Jessie (Hackney) Evans-Kindred on Oct. 31, 1936.

The family moved to South Bend from Mound City, IL when she was a young girl and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bernard White.  Ola accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 11.

She was educated in South Bend schools and graduated from Central High School where she was a member of the girls’ volleyball team.

Ola met, fell in love with and married the late Melvin Williams in 1955; to this union they were blessed with four beautiful children.   

Ola was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Circle Leader for Missionary Circle #2, taught Vacation Bible School for several years and was a faithful Sunday school student. She was treasurer of the Greater St. John Nurses Ministry; and also served as treasurer for the District Nurses’ Ministry.

She worked for Children’s Hospital for several years and later worked for Indiana Bell/AT&T from which she retired after 27 years of service.

Ola was always a busy woman.  She enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and especially her trip to Paris France and the Bus Fellowship trips.  She was an avid card player, and loved playing UNO with the grand and great grandchildren and loved baking Christmas cookies.  Most of all she was a loving and giving mother and grandmother all the kids and their friends affectionately called her “mom”. 

She leaves to cherish her memory; 3 daughters, Kathy (Barney) Lewis; Laurel Miss., Karen (Michael) Essett; Indianapolis IN and Kimberly (William) Wilson of South Bend, IN and 1 son, David (Ericka) Williams also of South Bend.   She also leaves 9, grandchildren, Erika (Kevin) Grayson, William (Ashley) Wilson, April Lewis, Michelle Essett, Makayla Essett, Ashley Wilson, Karolyn (Jamile) Durr, Maya Williams, David Williams and 8 great-grandchildren; Christopher King, Kiershaun Johnson, Kaison  Grayson, Jaden Wilson, Makenzy Wilson, Raniya Martin, Isaiah Donaldson and William R. Wilson.  One sister, Kathryn L. Peterson of Gary, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive her.
