SOUTH BEND - Jack N. Morrical, 79, of South Bend, passed away early Monday morning, October 25, 2010, in his home surrounded by his family. Jack was born June 3, 1931, in Walkerton, a son of the late Gerald and Carolyn (Smith) Morrical. .

He grew up in South Bend where he graduated in 1950 from South Bend Central High School. Jack furthered his education, attending Western Michigan University, UCLA and Indiana University. In high school and college he actively participated in sports.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 - 1957.

On July 1, 1961, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Jack married Janice I. Michels.

The couple lived in South Bend until moving to Granger in 1974, and returned to South Bend a few years ago. Jack was an owner and CEO of Midway Truck and Coach in Elkhart. His previous work included Studebaker Corporation in their research lab, loan service manager for East Central Investments, building manager for Sherland in South Bend, and National Sales Manager for Honey RV Company. Jack was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. He formerly belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Granger, the Elks in South Bend, Knollwood Country Club and Morris Park Country Club. Jack enjoyed dancing with Janice, good music and plays. Jack is remembered as a gentle man whose family was the center of his life.

Jack's surviving family includes his wife of 49 years, Janice; four children, David (Sandra) Morrical of Granger, Julie (Luis) Lamar of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jean Morrical of Mishawaka and Brett (Vikki) Morrical of Granger; five grandchildren, Victoria and Tristan Morrical, Christian and Braden Lamar, and Reagan Morrical; a brother, Gerald (Pat) Morrical of Sarasota, Florida; a sister, Marilynn Maternowski of South Bend; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Michels Welsh of Mishawaka and Mary Jo Rainey of Nashville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, with Monsignor William Schooler officiating. Friends may spend time with Jack's family Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where a Vigil Prayer Service will begin the visitation at 5 pm. Visitation is also Friday from 10 - 11 a.m. in the church. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory be made to The Center for Hospice Care, to the Christ Child Society or to St. Pius X Church. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
