SOUTH BEND, IN - Daniel (Dan) Anthony Mauro, 86, was born in South Bend, Indiana on March 10, 1932, to Angelo Mauro and Concetta Ricco Mauro (both deceased).

Dan married Ligia (Lil) Raymond on September 27, 1952. He is survived by his wife Lil, together celebrating 66 golden years of marriage. He is also survived by his son David (Amy Kuhar) of North Liberty, Indiana and a daughter, Susan Ann (Rory) Karczewski of Warsaw, Indiana along with six grandchildren: Taylor, Nathan, Ryan, (Mauro), Christopher (Katherine), Patrick, and Raeanne (Karczewski) and two great-grandchildren, Luke & Noah (Karczewski) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his brother Tom, and sister Helen Cira.

Dan served his country in the Navy as a submarine mechanic in New London, CT during the Korean War. The G.I. Bill enabled him to attend Cope School of Tool & Die Engineering. He graduated and began working as a Tool Designer for Midwest Engineering where he worked for seven years. He later worked as a Quality Mgr. for Krizman Products before joining Bendix (Bosch) for 17 years first as a Tool Designer and retiring as an Auto Product Designer.

Dan had many hobbies and interests. He and his wife loved to Round Dance and traveled to dance conventions and dance clubs for 48 years. They also traveled to Europe several times to visit Dan's Italian aunts and uncles. Dan and his wife also enjoyed photography, belonging to the Michiana Photo Club of which Dan was president for eight years. He was an excellent photographer and won many awards. He also judged many times for photo clubs and photo competitions.

Dan was also an avid bird watcher and was a long time member of the Audubon Society. He loved going on bird watching trips with his nephew & Godson, John Lisek. He enjoyed fishing with son-in-law Rory Karczewski. His interests also included collecting and selling antique pocket watches. Dan liked to cook and made many meals for the family. He was an avid card player. He and his wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting and school events. They brought much happiness to him.

He will be missed by all.

Visitation for Dan will be on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Funeral Home located at 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN. Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018, with visitation one hour prior, at St. Patrick Church located at 309 S. Taylor St., South Bend, IN. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Center for Hospice Care located at 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or St. Patrick Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN 46601.
