Richard Jay Horvath passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer.

Richard is survived by his loving Wife Christine, Son Jim, Daughter BJ, Grandsons Scot and Winston, Great Grandchildren Zoe, Kali, Riley and Zoi, Aunt Irene and Uncle Chet.

"Dick" as he preferred to be called was born, raised and went to school in South Bend Indiana and graduated from high school 1950. He then enrolled in college and joined the navel reserves in witch he served three years and 117 days. He completed his Masters degree of Arts and Education from Ball State University in June 1964, then he received his class A teachers certificate from American Schools for the Deaf 1965 and in 1966 received the certificate of competence in speech pathology from The American Speech and Hearing College. Upon completion of his education he left South Bend and headed west, landed in concord and decided to stay.

Dick was a very civic minded individual and he performed a tremendous amount of community services. He received the Thomas Jefferson Award for community service, and also was named moose of the year two different times from the Concord Moose lodge for coordinating the volunteers to deliver the meals on wheels program which he ran for eighteen years, it was estimated that he was responsible in part for over 43,000 meals being delivered. He also ran the scholarship program for the moose lodge including raising money and picking, interviewing and selecting the potential recipients.

Dick was a fisherman, his love for fishing took him all over the world, places like Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Alaska and many lakes and rivers in the US, and another passion he had was "ball" it did not matter which " ball", baseball, football, basketball, soccer, golf, and if he could not attend an event he was if front of the TV, and sometimes two or more TVs.

Friends and Family are all Invited to a Memorial service Saturday October 31, 2015 at 12:00 pm At the Concord United Methodist Church located: 1645 West St. Concord, 94520 Reception & Dinner to follow on Church grounds.
