Paul Raymond “Dusty” Rhoades

SOUTH BEND - Paul R. "Dusty" Rhoades, 76, of South Bend, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2009, in the Morningside Nursing and Memory Center, South Bend. Mr. Rhoades was born on October 27, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Russell and Mary (Tallman) Rhoades. He had remained a lifelong resident of South Bend.

On April 6, 1957, in South Bend, he married Eleanor N. Swisher, who survives. Along with his wife, Eleanor, survivors include their two children, Mari L. Rhoades of South Bend and Daniel R. Rhoades of New York City, NY; and two sisters, Lillian Brandt of New Albany, IN, and Ethel Underwood of Port Clinton, OH. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

One sister and three brothers preceded Paul in death.

Mr. Rhoades retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years of employment. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War after graduating from Central High School. Mr. Rhoades was a longtime member of Calvary Temple Church and currently Southgate Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12th, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. John Wilson will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11th, in the funeral home.
