MISHAWAKA - Ronald H. Hurley, 78, of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, in his home. Ron was born June 23, 1932, in Danville, Illinois, a son of the late Henry and Goldie (Snyder) Hurley.

He grew up in South Bend and graduated from Central High School in 1951. Ron attended the University of Notre Dame.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. Ron married Sharon Murphy on November 24, 1976. The couple made Mishawaka their home. Ron retired from O'Brien's Paint Factory after many years of employment. He then worked 10 years for the Security Department at the University of Notre Dame. Ron was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend. He was a lifelong Cubs and Notre Dame football fan. Ron belonged to the BK and DeAmici's Clubs in Mishawaka. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Ron's surviving family includes his wife, Sharon; a sister, Jeanne Gastineau; numerous nieces and nephews including Chuck (Joan) Hurley and Tom (Patricia) Hurley, who helped care for Ron. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Hurley, Charles Hurley Sr., and Ken Hurley; and by a sister, Mary Pietrzak.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, with Rev. Jacob Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will be in the church Wednesday from 10 -11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Center for Hospice Care. Envelopes will be available in church. Arrangements are in the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
