Suzanne Walker Hull (VanDeSompele)

Suzanne (Hull) Van De Sompele

May 26, 1933 - Aug. 30, 2014

SOUTH BEND - Suzanne VanDeSompele, 81, once referred to as "The Amazing Indestructible Woman", passed away peacefully on August 30, 2014 after a brief illness. Born May 26, 1933 in Chicago, Suzanne was a nearly life-long resident of South Bend, where she met and married her husband Maury, set up housekeeping, raised a family and established many enduring friendships. Recently residing at Golden Living in Mishawaka, in typical fashion Suzanne also established many solid friendships with fellow residents, staff, and volunteers alike.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Gracie Hull; her husband of 51 years, Maurice VanDeSompele and her eldest son, Mark VanDeSompele, who along with extended family and friends, have warmly greeted her to join them in God's loving embrace.

Suzanne is survived by her daughters, Julie (Tom) Gerrits of Oshkosh, WI, and Jayne (Quinn) Wurz of South Bend, IN; her son, Brad (Veronica) VanDeSompele of Lagrange Park, IL, and her daughter-in-law, Sylvia VanDeSompele of Elkhart, IN, along with 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom she was very proud.

In addition to raising a family, Suzanne was employed at the Welfare Department and the South Bend Juvenile Justice Center for many years which she very much enjoyed. Suzanne was also an extremely social person who was a member of the Sigma Pi Gamma Sorority and loved the friendship and relationships with her sorority sisters. She was also very well read -- in fact a voracious reader of books -- which was evident to anyone who enjoyed a conversation with her.

Visitation for Suzanne VanDeSompele will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm, at McGann Hay Funerals l Cremations l Gatherings, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., at Ironwood, South Bend, 574-232-1411. Funeral and Christian burial services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday at McGann Hay's University Chapel, Rev. Paul Wallace, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts of remembrance of Suzanne be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545, which so compassionately cared for her needs in her final days. Revelation 21:3, 4: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
