Joan Margaret (Harrington) Corthier
August 22, 1931 ~ November 2, 2024 (age 93)
Joan Margaret Harrington Corthier, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on November 2, 2024. A lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana, Joan was born on August 22, 1931, to John and Margaret (Joossens) Harrington.
Joan graduated from South Bend Central High School and furthered her education at St. Mary’s College. In 1951, she married her devoted husband, Roger Corthier, with whom she shared 37 wonderful years until his passing in December 1988. Together, they built a loving family of which they were very proud.
Joan's love for travel took her to beautiful destinations, including memorable trips to Paris, Belgium and China. She was especially proud of her Irish and Belgian heritage, often relishing a good beer or a glass of wine with family and friends. An avid card player, she found great joy in her Bridge Club, where friendships flourished over many years. A dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Joan’s faith was a cornerstone of her life.
Joan is survived by her loving family, who will forever cherish her wit and dedication, and the fond memories they created together. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship that will be remembered by all who knew her. Joan is survived by her children: Deborah (Richard) Paskin, of Wilmette, IL, John (Mary) Corthier of Westfield, IN, and Michele (Alex) Beard of Boulder, CO, along with five grandchildren: Sean Corthier, Nicholas (Jessica) Corthier, Marc (Nathan Lehmann-Ziebarth) Paskin, Maggi Beard and Joli Beard, and three great grandchildren: William, Charles and Kyla Corthier.
In honor of Joan's life, there will be a visitation on Monday November 11, 2024, starting at 10:00 am in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Hwy 933, South Bend, IN, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Lacroix C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery South Bend. If you wish to leave the family an online condolence, please visit hahnfuneralhomes.com.
