Donald R. McLaughlin

Donald R. McLaughlin a 59-year resident of Naperville A memorial service for Donald R. McLaughlin, 78, will held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at The Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St., Naperville.

Private interment will be in Clarendon Hills Cemetery. Born Oct. 17, 1929, In Elkhart, Ind., he died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his home. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He was past president and an active member of the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club for 43 years.

He was an active member of Community United Methodist Church for 59 years, where he served as an usher, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Mr. McLaughlin was active in many community civic activities. Mr. Mclaughlin was a 1955 graduate of North Central College with a bachelor of arts degree in commerce.

He also attended banking schools at the University of Chicago, Ohio State and the University of Wisconsin. He retired after 27 years from Harris Bank in Naperville in 1999, where he had been senior vice-president and manager of the commercial loan department. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Bonnie J. McLaughlin (nee Ertfmeyer); his loving daughter, Laura (Jon) Van Houten of Valparaiso, Ind.; his beloved grandchildren, Arthur, Hunter and Max Van Houten, and Caitlin and Eric Neuman; and sister-in-law, Ruth McLaughlin of Goshen, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover C. and Nellie E. (nee Fisher) McLaughlin; his brothers, Wilmer, M. Wayne and Grover McLaughlin Jr.; sisters, Kathleen Deja and Elizabeth Topp; and daughter, Beth Neuman. Memorials may be made to North Central College,30 N.
