Jack A. Wiltrout
July 7, 1935 – Jan. 18, 2004 South Bend, IN — Jack A. Wiltrout, 68, residing on Leeper Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.18, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Jack was born on July 7, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Herbert and Eleanore (Schlundt) Wiltrout.
He had remained a lifelong area resident. On June 30, 1956, in South Bend, he married the former Dorthy “Louise” Creighton, who survives. Along with his wife, Louise of 47 years, survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline S.Badics (Frank Johnson) of Granger, Ind., and Deborah L. Roman of South Bend; three grandchildren, Sarah Louise Badics, Jack Joseph Badics and Heidi Ann Roman; four nieces; and four nephews.
One son-in-law, Dick Badics, and one brother, William H.Wiltrout, preceded him in death.
Jack was presently employed with St.Joseph County government. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, South Bend. Jack was a 1953 graduate of South Bend Central High School and played a large role winning the 1953 State Basketball Championship.South Bend Central was the first team in South Bend to win a state championship. Jack was named on the Indiana All-Star Team. Following graduation, Jack attended Indiana State University on a basketball scholarship and also played semi-professional basketball for the Toasty Flyers. Athletics was a major part of Jack’s life.He was active in fast-pitch softball until his mid-forties. He was a member of the Wagner Steel softball team that won the state championship two years in a row.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.on Wednesday, Jan.21, in St.Paul’s Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend.Rev. Gregory Fiechtner, pastor, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m.today, Jan.20, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S.Michigan St., South Bend, and one hour prior to services in church on Wednesday.
Contributions in memory of Jack A. Wiltrout may be donated to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Jack will be sorely missed by his loving, loyal family and friends.
