MARYELLEN (SOUTHWORTH) VOLKER

Volker, Maryellen Born February 9, 1938 in Chicago to Bradley and Suzanne Southworth. Maryellen passed away January 23, 2013.

She graduated from Central High School, South Bend, IN, and from Southern Methodist University.

After graduation she was employed by Braniff Airways and later taught at Armstrong Elementary in Highland Park.

In 1963 she married Robert Volker who she met at First Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Maryellen taught preschool for 17 years at Northminster Presbyterian Church (later merged with Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church) where she also served as a deacon. In 1990 her husband retired from the Texas Insurance Department and he became an insurance examiner for the State of Nevada. Mary Ellen accompanied him for 13 years on 22 assignments located in 12 states.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years; daughters and son-in-laws, Melinda and Darrell Bockemehl of Dallas and Debbie and Brandon Quarles of Waco; grandchildren, Jared and Lauren Bockemehl and Ashtyn and Corban Quarles; and her brother, Bradley C. Southworth, III and wife, Lynda of Gainesville, TX.

The family asks that friends join them for a graveside service to be held at 1:00 PM, Monday January 28th at Restland followed by a reception at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church, 8525 Audelia Road, Dallas 75238. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Highlands Presbyterian Child Development Center, same address.
