Frederick Howard Snyder

August 11, 1947 ~ December 11, 2024 (age 77)

Frederick Howard Snyder, 77, passed away on December 11, 2024, in Hilton Head Island, SC. Born on August 11, 1947, in South Bend, IN, Fred lived a fulfilling life defined by his dedication to education, coaching, business, and, most importantly, his family.

Fred graduated from Central High School in South Bend in 1965 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ball State University in 1970. He began his career as a teacher, coach, and later principal at LeMans Academy, shaping young minds with passion and dedication. In 1976, Fred transitioned to the business world, joining Carleton Financial Computations in South Bend, where he worked until 1993. He and his wife, Linda, then moved to Hilton Head Island, where Fred owned and operated two successful businesses until his retirement in 2014. Never one to stay idle, Fred later worked as a property manager, forming lasting friendships with many of his clients.

Fred was a devoted husband to Linda (Lupa) Snyder for 56 years and a loving father to Damon (Brandy) Snyder and Corrie (Kevin) Cogan. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Logan, Presley, and Bode Snyder, and Emma, Abby, and Lily Cogan, and recently celebrated becoming a great-grandfather to Shayla.

Fred is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and sisters-in-law Sharlene Snyder, Gail (Anton) Viditz-Ward, and Tami Lupa. He was also dearly loved by twelve nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Delores (Bourdon) Snyder, and his siblings, Sharon (Albert) Vanderheyden, Jackie (James) Gruber, James Snyder, and nephews Timothy Vanderheyden and Brett Snyder.

Fred’s finest quality was his sense of humor, and he brought joy to many through his laughter. He loved watching sports—particularly his beloved Cubs and anything Notre Dame —spending time with family, enjoying the beach, and observing birds from his screened-in porch. Fred also treasured attending Phillies farm league baseball games with his brother, Jim.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island, SC, 29928, from 11:30 a.m. until the start of Mass at noon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or the Low Country Food Pantry.
