Maybelle Ruth (West) Slater

Maybelle Ruth Slater, 92, of South Bend, Ind., died on Wednesday morning, March 29.
Maybelle was born on Oct. 3, 1907, in St. Louis, Mo., to William and Jean (MacKenzie) West, and had lived most of her life in South Bend. As Maybelle R. West, she married Nichols Slater on Nov. 8, 1924. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Slater, and by three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Karon Haraguchi and her husband, Ciro of South Bend; by two sons, Eugene Slater of Pearland, Texas, and Thomas Slater a and his wife, Sue of Nappanee, Ind. She is also survived by a daughter-inlaw, Marilyn Slater of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Rick Slater, Deb Wyant, Sheryl Feller, Melody DeBeck, Craig Slater, Jeannie Westerhouse, Mike Slater, Cindy Suddon, Anna Beebe and John Haraguchi; and by 12 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, South Bend, and attended South Bend Central High School.
Funeral services for Maybelle Ruth Slater will be at 11 a.m. today, March 31, in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Kennard Wilson of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today until time of services in the funeral home.
