Owen E. Sessler Sr.

Dec. 21, 1913 - March 17, 2005

Owen E. "Speedy" Sessler Sr., 91, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at Hospice House of St. Joseph County on Thursday, March 17, 2005, of natural causes. Owen was born December 21, 1913, in Havana, Illinois, to Warren and Frances (Price) Sessler.

On February 20, 1939, Owen married the former Ms. Alice Esther Brinton in Angola, Indiana. Esther survives. Also surviving are his children, Owen E. Sessler Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Mishawaka, and Edie Shewchuk and her husband, Michael Jr. of South Bend. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Shewchuk III, Lisa Sessler and Chris Sessler; a great-grandson, Bryant Ragsdale Sessler; and a sister, Evelyn Verstraete of Mishawaka.

Preceding Owen in death were his brothers, Norm and Eugene, and his sisters, Grace, Virginia and Margaret. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 21 , 2005, at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Indiana. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Sessler was a graduate of South Bend Central High School. He was employed for many years with Mercury Motorway as the superintendent of the garage, and then with Tucker Freight as a mechanic and welder until his retirement in the mid-1970s. In his spare time, Speedy raced micro midget cars, and was a member of the Micro Midget Racing Club in South Bend. He also was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County. The Sessler family would like to extend their appreciation to the many neighbors and friends who helped their family during Owen's time of need. Your kind gestures and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten
